About Motez

Before moving to Australia, award-winning producer and composer Motez had a diverse and creative upbringing that took him from his hometown of Baghdad to Bristol and back. After his father made the journey to Australia by boat to seek asylum, Motez followed, ultimately settling in Adelaide. Now, the musician has built a lasting relationship with the South Australian capital, and is woven into the fabric of the city’s tight-knit electronic scene. He’s crossed continents to spin decks; has notched up collaborations with Tkay Maidza, Dom Dolla and Scrufizzer; and remixed hits for the likes of Flume and Sam Smith. But despite his international outlook, he always relishes the feeling of coming back to Adelaide. We spoke with Motez about drawing musical inspiration from real-life stories, current audiovisual projects around Adelaide, and his favorite bars and venues to visit in town.
